1964 2000 wedgi

Interesting thread. I was wondering if anyone was ever going to get their hands on that car.

Also, welcome to the Wedgewood club! Mine Wedgie is a little earlier than yours, and not exactly standard, but they are great to drive and the early changes are amazing to note, especially when you go through the Service Notes and see how many things changed in that first year of production.

As Nick said, I'd keep the Lockheed servo, as it's a huge improvement over the Dunlop one.

Hi. Jim who had the car did not really want to part with it as he has a large collection but I have known him for several years and he knew I would bring it back to show standard so he agreed to part with it. I keep finding so many things that are different like the reserve tap being nice and easy to get at and the fit and finish of the car compared to later ones. I see the boot springs have even got nice rubber covers at the ends. She even has her original King Dick jack which is substantial compared to later ones. I am going to have to change or rebuild the gearbox at some point as she does not like going into 2nd most of the time. Sometimes it goes in but jumps out and sometimes it will go in and stay in. I have checked the flange nut which was loose and that has eliminated the speedo fluctuation but it has not helped 2nd gear. Personally I prefer the Dunlop braking system and with the Girling servo it is excellent and better than my mates later 3500 was. I am still cleaning all the grime off of her but so far underneath the grime she is excellent and just mainly needs cosmetics, even the floor pans and inner sills under the back seat still have shiny paint :)
I have so far done around 200 miles in her and apart from the gearbox prob she feels very tight like she was only a couple of years old with no clonks or rattles and she starts first time every time. When you are lucky enough to drive one that is just how Rover intended you can see why they made such an impression. She just wafts you along in style.

Am I right in thinking that these early ones had Connolly Leather as it seems the seats are finished better ?

Is your Wedgi the one that was in Practical Classics the other month with Rostyles as I am in Bedfordshire as well.

I'm not sure about the Leather, but I haven't noticed any difference between a '63 car and a '67 one..

Is it the one that was in PC last month with the Rostyles fitted. She's currently in the garage having a new clutch and some engine work done, so will hopefully be back on the road in the next few weeks :)

It's really good to see your car being cared for and being used again - a great genuine looking car.
I am normally a V8 fan.....but am starting to appreciate the early series 2000's - especially in Wedgewood !

Mark.

Hi all. I have now done over 1200 miles in her and she is doing fine. I had to rebuild the starter motor but that was just due to age and lack
of use. I have re-varnished all the wood and replaced the top and bottom of dash as these had deteriorated due to age and the sun.
I am lucky enough to have access to a vast amount of second-hand p6 spares so she now has a genuine p6 roof rack fitted.
The spares and some complete cars will be coming up on ebay over the next few months.
