Hi. This is my 1964 2000 as bought a couple of weeks ago. It is a genuine unmolested never restored car. EOO is one of the first 5000 off the production line and was a top p6 owners club car back in the late 80s/90s. Unfortunately EOO has fallen on hard times but I intend to carefully do the work needed. EOO is almost totally original and has all the early touches inc real wood and the little dash lights. I have had several p6s and there are so many small differences between EOO and later ones. I put her in for an mot after checking her over and she passed. Underneath she is perfect including the Dunlop braking system. I was lucky to have a folder full of paperwork including the original bill of sale and the options she came with.

Welcome i spoke to your son on facebook last week. Looks a great car mind you i might be a little biased as you'll see in my signature :D Passing an MOT is always a good thing! I would love to get mine on the road but need to swap the water pump and fuel pump first. I'm guessing after 50 years the water pump studs may be troublesome so not plucked up the courage to tackle it yet

Welcome indeed.
It's great that you know what you've got and intend to do things the 'proper' way
That's an Essex registration - which dealer did it come from?

Hi. Thanks for all the encouragement so far. I will post more pics over the weekend as I have spent the last few days cleaning and polishing her. She is remarkably good underneath all the grime. She was sold new by Harvey Hudson in Woodford London and cost the grand total of £1314 14s 3p on the 21st July 1964. I intend to just spray the parts that need doing as I want to keep as much of the original paint a possible. The door shuts are incredible for 50yrs old. The leather is worn but there are no splits just a couple of places where the stitching has gone. I had to fit a new fuel pump and replace 2 inlet valves after they stuck due to the petrol going like tar after standing for so long. The p5 in the pic is a mk2 3litre saloon that is very rotten and bodged. It belongs to the guy I got wedgi off and he may put on ebay soon. A tip for making it slightly easier to take the water pump off after so long is to warm the engine up first if possible as the alloy will expand quicker than the steel bolts.

Here is some more pic as she is at the moment.

If you had the original purchaser's details and would be willing to PM them to me I'd be interested to see them just out of interest. And the salesman's name if it's on there as well.

Hi great looking car.looks like you found a good one. Will she be living outdoors .
Welcome
Marcus

Hi Marcus. Thanks for the compliment. She is extremely good considering she has sat neglected and unloved since 2006 when she appeared in a classic mag. She will be outside a lot of the time as I will use her quite a bit. I tend to pamper my cars a lot though so she will only ever get better hopefully.

Hi Tam. Nice to see you also have an early wedgi as well. I changed my fuel pump due to sticky, yucky old fuel. I was lucky to get a brand new pump off the guy I got car from as he deals in Rovers and parts. As for your water pump, try starting her up and getting engine hot as the ally water pump will expand more than the bolts so it may help. Unleaded fuel is evil when it gets old and dries out. When we first started her 2 of the valves stuck and got bent so I had to strip the head and replace them.

Great looking car, and what a difference from your firsts pic to the rest. It really gives me encouragement to get my 64 on the road.

Welcome to the Forum. And well done on getting your hands on EOO. I tried several times in the mid-Naughties, offering several incentives, but still couldn't get Jim to part with her. The major problem she had then (apart from needing TLC) was the gearbox, which was in a parlous running condition. Hopefully this has been sorted in the interim.

She is an 'A' suffix car, not many people have them (I've never owned one), but there are quite a few owners on here.

Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick. I know that originally Jim wanted about £2000 but I paid less than half that. We have known Jim for a Long time and he had finally decided to clear some cars and was going to put EOO on ebay so I stepped in and got her for what I think was fair price considering how good she is and her history. The gearbox has lost syncro on 2nd and somebody had filled it with gear oil instead of engine oil but apart from that it is fine and I intend to either replace or rebuild the box later this year. The only other part that is non original that I would like to change is that she has lost her Dunlop servo and now has a Girling one. Her mileage is still under 72000 from new.

Excellent.

Actually, IMHO, the Girling servo is an upgrade. The original 5" servo was designed to run with the original spec pads, which were a lot softer than the ones we get now.

With a 7" servo you get excellent brakes, the best feeling ones on any P6 IMHO. Rover changed the pad material and the servo in October 1965.

If the servo needs to be changed on my recently acquired Wedgie 2000 I'm going for the 7" one.

Hi Wedgi seems like we have very similar cars as mines is pretty original as well if not quite so roadworthy or clean inside :| with the leather needing re stitched. As far as I know everything is original apart from some bottom half paint and the screen washer bottle motor. Its had 2 owners before me although they were husband and wife! changing to the husband when the wife died. ARG has been off the road since 1987 with 47,000 miles but I had her briefly running to put on the trailer when picking her up but that really was the last act of a dying fuel pump and has been stored away for the last few months. Not sure when I'll get round to getting her on the road as I have no budget to play with at the moment.
As another coincidence my running P6 at the moment was supplied from Lambs Limited of Woodford in May 1974 don't know if they are related to EOO's dealers but same area.

Here is a link to a thread about ARG

And an album of random pics of ARG taken when viewing and getting home.

Check the rear flange nut first. If the nut comes loose, you loose second gear synchro. If the stud has snapped off rather than the nut coming loose (which happens) then the symptom is the same, but the gearbox does need to come out.

Lamb's and HH&Co were within about a mile of each other.

Hi. Thanks for that. I take it you mean the main nut that holds the flange onto the main shaft. I am going under her tomorrow to check gearbox mount as there is some movement. I will check to see if it is tight. Sometimes if you are at the right speed it goes into second and it is fine. It is a shame as the box is good with no noise. I will scan the original sales receipt and send you a copy. It does not have any salesman's name but it does list all the options and is funny that the radio was twice the price of the seat belts.

That's the one.
