nor sure I have noticed pinging ( pinking ? ) noise while driving, but there are so many noises. :) The door cards are not fitted, along with much other trim. Engine seems to make the right nosies when tootling about.
How badly do you need them?
Might have the remnant lights from donor car that gifted wire wheels. It had proper terminal rot so likely anything shiny and decent is already swapped onto my own. Shout and I get pictures.
I added half litre of orange OAT based by mistake!
Quickly realised error by the strange noises. Managed to drain ( almost) all the fluid including the drain tap. First attempt to flush the rest only partial success as thermostat was closed. Car had hard start issues so unable to get...
Will review the running-on situation next.
new plugs, Not sure I have any new plugs
new fuel (super unleaded). - can add fuel - if I dare a trip to the filling station.
check timing, Static timing or with a strobe thingy ( never done either task)
check carb mixture at idle (not too rich, not...
I watch the video too. Good for him to lay bare the novice home mechanic experience. Has given me greater confidence to tackle jobs on my own car. Never realised that head comes off leaving the timing chain undisturbed. :) Also reminded me to re-visit the 4 stroke timing cycle to better...
looking for a proper replacement battery and my favourite supplier does not list 084 or 284 , wonder if there was a review of sizes since 1978 ? :D
Not certain my battery the official item because poles are reversed. Mounted under bonnet and positive is nearest headlights with earth lead too...
Glad it is not just me.
Found homologations paper when I thought manifold was beyond repair and spares difficult to find. Seems that any decent machine shop could use these drawings to fabricate one in future.
Still mildly amused that our cars appear in official FIA documents.
This might have substance. The TC had homologation paper for the manifold - specifically for (rallying) competition use. Would they have hobbled the road cars with 2 inch carbs, to allow tuning on the race cars?
Battery negative terminal has short braided lead bolted to inner wing only, no other cable to chassis rail or engine.
Will try the jump lead connected from the bolt to somewhere on the engine.
My own cold start has me thinking about the earth lead. Mine is non standard and bolted to the inner wing. seem to think it should be somewhere else. Slam panel maybe or in the engine?
Sorry for ancient thread resurrection and any confusion.
want to diagnose my starting issues.
hoped to positively identify the correct coil. Mainly as it’s an easy swap!
We have fuel
Engine does turn over, albeit sluggish.
I’m looking to fit v8 bonnet to my series one 2000TC
Hoped it was possible to adapt.
Is the V8 bonnet just longer? Did you make a plate to extend the locking mechanism rearward?
Would love to see a drawing.
scratching my head on difficult to start 1967 2000TC HOT579E. Think the coil is suspect.
Seems Likely I need the negative earth ballast type coil - will any type do the trick? Will go out and look for the ballast resistor.
did not see ballast resistor
Did find 12v on the coil. Weirdly the...
Hi
No start despite. good cranking speed.
No spark with spare plug directly connected. to HT output lead.
The coil has 30v to +ve terminal when ignition turned on. --> measured against negative earth.
The voltage between +ve and -ve wires pulled from coil is only three volts.
The coil resistance...
About to blindly change oil and filter using the spare tecnocar R406 inherited with the car. It *looks* like the right one but how can I tell if it has the standpipe? Can see inside a big spring, so guess that is the safety valve.
