    The Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur

Hi all After a 6 year hiatus, the Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur is back in my sights! The ETD is my 1975 3500 Auto, PAS - an NZ assembled car we`ve owned for 19 years now. After my last major renovation back in 2011 / 12 the car was on the road continuously from 2012 through to 2019. Sadly, it...

I have this problem with the Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur, my 75 3500. Can anyone recommend a source for quality replacements? Thanks James

Rover P6B Engine Oil Pressure Concerns

Rover P6B Engine Oil Pressure Concerns

Hi Ron. I'm currently having the same problem with my oil pressure. Intermittently dropping to zero on the gauge. No oil warning light and no knocking from the engine. I`m sure it is the sender. I tightened the spade clip on the sender itself. no change. Do you know what the correct sender...

Intermittent ignition fault - diagnostic advice.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I finally found the smoking gun with my ignition issue tonight, I think. There is a fuse on the ignition circuit, labelled 19 / 20. I discovered I was able to make the engine cut out by jiggling the fuse around. This fuse is adjacent to the headlight fuses on...

Intermittent ignition fault - diagnostic advice.

Well, it appears to be the accuspark module dying. The fault seems to be on the -ve side of the coil. Waiting on a new one from Simon bbc. To add to my woes, now the front driver`s side brake caliper is leaking! No rest for the wicked..

Intermittent ignition fault - diagnostic advice.

Thanks Peter. I found this : http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pages/Downloads/Rover_PDFs/IntermittentIgnition01.pdf , this looks like a useful diagnostic tool for whether the fault is up or downstream of the coil itself. I`ve cleaned up all the connectors and tightened them all up...

Intermittent ignition fault - diagnostic advice.

Thanks guys for your comments. Roverp480 , thanks for the information regarding the circuit feeding the low tension side. I`m surprised there`s no fuse. I would have thought there would be some protection for a short in the coil or similar. The ignition light stayed off when the hesitations...

Intermittent ignition fault - diagnostic advice.

Hi. My usually reliable Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur (75 3500) has started misbehaving following a bit of a lay-up. It was off the road for about 9 months. Now, there is an intermittent fault with the ignition. Large hesitations occur. They are abrupt and the tachometer jumps down to zero and back...

In the backseat of your Rover

The song`s clearly about my P6, of course! Skip forward to 50 seconds if the song is too much to bear!

    Main beam behaviour S2 3500

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry for my slow reply - I had forgotten posting this. With main beam switched on, just the inners are lit. Flashing the mains by pulling back on the stalk turns on all four. So main on the outers is not working. I converted the inners to halogen replacements...

    Main beam behaviour S2 3500

A question for you all. When you switch to main beam (rather than just flash the lights) , should all 4 lamps be on? On my car, all four are on when I flash, but just two when I switch to main beam. Thanks

    Loose Timing Chain

Cutting out at the lights sounds like it might be fueling related to me. I would recommend looking for vacuum leaks and a check of float levels and carb balance before panicking about the timing. Especially with the low mileage, I can`t imagine the chain would be too bad.

Choke Cable for late S2 3500

Thanks for the link, but that one is listed as not to fit the 3500. The threaded ferrule that should lock into the hole in the dash is too small. I found a 'universal' one on a Mini parts site and that didn`t fit either. Incidentally getting parts from the UK Is actually not too bad. As long...

Choke Cable for late S2 3500

Hi I have been trying to source a choke cable for a late model 3500. Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks James

    Storage headaches

Ah, bad luck. Sorry to see it in such a state. Do you reckon the internals on the engine are that bad? That efflorescence and rust on the outside is nasty, but inside should have been shielded from the worst of the moisture, shouldn`t it? In the photo most of the corrosion looked to be on the...

    Daily Driver

Mine is my daily drive, but doesn`t get out of town much. Plus, there`s next to no traffic in sleepy suburban NZ, so heat has not been an issue. The good thing about the P6 is that it can stop and go like a modern, so it isn`t stressful to drive. I used to have a Spitfire 1500 as a daily drive...

    DOHC Daily Driver.

Excellent exhaust set up. My first taste of mechanics was rebuilding a Lister D when I was about 12 - the pepperpot looks familiar! I can imagine having the torque lower down would be ideal. Are you going to alter the final drive ratio at all? Cheers

    The Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur

Hi Peter I replaced the stock worn 3.5 cam with a new 3.9 one, along with new chain and followers. I actually swapped a head over as well, to deal with some broken stud issues. Is it noticeably different? To me it is. Throttle response is better, and there is definitely more torque available...

    The Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur

Hi Haven`t reported in on the Elegant Thirsty Dinosaur for a while. Here she is meeting a very nice blue 2000 TC - there aren`t many non-v8`s in New Zealand. Now that the new 3.9 camshaft is bedded and in celebration of her 6th consecutive warrant of fitness, I finally got round to...

My 3500s project - future daily drive

Looks very good indeed. Great to see the hard work pay off with a quality end result. Where did you get the stickers from? I need the stickers for the pass side inner wing for a late SII v8.

    SD1 Article

I saw this article in the NZ Herald, one of NZ`s main rags: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/motoring/news ... d=11368922 They have featured a P6 owner in the past as well.
