    Sump plug torque V8

I have just read lots about V8 engine sump plugs but cannot see any reference to recommended torque. I usually just do it up tight. Not very scientific. What value is correct. Frank

    Dash mat

Does anyone know where I can buy a dash mat for my 1971 P6B?

    De dion tube P6B

Is it possible to extract the centre section of the tube without removing the whole unit from the car? I only need to extract the inner (ie withdraw it to the right ) so that I can replace the dust gaiter. I have recollections of a New Zealand member commenting on this some years ago.

    De dion tube P6B

Not really a new topic but the gaiters on my De Dion tube have gone again, albeit after many miles. Oil is dribbling out in unseemly amounts. I saw someone sometime ago ask if it is practical to refill early oiled filled tubes with grease.( When being overhauled of course.) I could not find a...

    rover 416 sli

To set my credentials first I own a 1971 P6B and have owned two P5s in the past. I live in Tasmania and a fellow in the village has a Rover 416 sli for sale. This car is a private English import, has done some 140,000kms and appears to be in good order. However there are no spare parts available...

    windscreen replacement

I am set to replace the front windscreen on my P6B and read that I must drill out the rivets holding the stainless steel finishing trim. Where are they? How do I get at them?

    V8 Oil pressure.

I'm not sure whether to worry or not but my oil warning light comes on somewhat intermittently once the engine has reached full and normal operating temperature. The oil pressure gauge behaves normally, ie about 40 psi and drops as the revs drop to idle. I have a new filter and oil, Penrite...

    Waterless Coolant

I wondered if anyone had any views or experience with waterless coolant in the Rover V8

    Vacuum Advance

I have just fitted a new vacuum advance to my P6B. The timing has been set according to the manual ie 6 degrees btdc. I am curious because on idle, there is no detectable suction on the tube from the carb. I would have expected a vast reduction in manifold pressure. On opening the throttle just...

    Replacement Alternators P6B 1971

My alternator has died. I have been offered a Lucas alternator 12/10 NB Elektrik. This fits physically. My original alternator worked through a Lucas type 11 AC control box. The new alternator has an internal control. Now the tricky bit. Wiring! The B+ output (brown-white) to the ammeter is...

    squealing brakes

1971 P6B I've just replaced the front pads and found that someone in the past had lost the damping shims and replaced them with thin sheets of brass. I can't find any replacement shims and have put the brass shims back in. They do not work and the brakes squeal horribly at low speeds. Does any...

    P6 Rover palago

Reading the August edition of Practical Classics I see a Rover P6 Palago sold at auction recently for Twenty thousand pounds sterling. What is a P6 Palago? It was described as one of eight prototypes and had a Buick V8. Sounds well out of the ordinary range of P6Bs. Who can help? Frank H.

    Windscreen removal 1971 P6B

The rubber sealing gasket surrounding my front windscreen is tired. Not leaking yet but a little perished and really needs replacing. I have read the posts on front windscreen removal and also the Rover workshop manual on the subject. It appears deceptively easy. Am I missing something? Any...

    de dion tube clicking

My 1971 P6B has a click in the de dion tube in the sliding joint. Not audible when driving but can be felt if I place my hand on the rubber boot and depress the rear suspension. This is obviously wrong but is it of great concern? If I load the boot - ie depress the suspension then the click...
