V8 Oil pressure.

I'm not sure whether to worry or not but my oil warning light comes on somewhat intermittently once the engine has reached full and normal operating temperature.
The oil pressure gauge behaves normally, ie about 40 psi and drops as the revs drop to idle.
I have a new filter and oil, Penrite HP 30.
There are no strange noises, engine temp is normal and I have removed and checked the pressure sensor.
This has been happening for some time and well before the latest oil change.
Anyone any views?

Given that your oil pressure gauge is reading normally, then I would suspect the oil light warning light switch is in need of replacement. They are designed to come on when the oil pressure drops within the range of 7 to 10psi and remain on when less than the minimum. They do fail from time to time, so having this happen is not unheard of.

Hello 6Bcygnet
Im assuming you have a V8
I had those same symptoms on my P6b for a few years and just shut my mind out when ever I took her out .
My miles are mostly open road so she doesn't lose pressure until Im about to stop . All the same a lot of head scratching until I ventured into the realms of the "Forum".
I was led into upgrading the oil pump with a high volume later SD1 one.
The result is higher oil pressure and no more flickering dash lights .
Others who have done this upgrade all swear by the improvement .
If you do decide to do this you will get a host of support from others on here .
There are blogs on the forum with pictures and blow by blow instructions

Thankyou for the comments.
The problem is very irregular so step one will be to replace the oil pressure switch and take it on from there.
Most of my driving is highway work and for that the light remains off.
