    Endeavour 2000

It wasn't just me that saw the TC badge then. I'm certain I clocked it as well. Cracking TV show and perhaps the only continuity error I noticed - apart from the same Blue Triumph Herald that popped up every 20 minutes or so of the final episode. :)

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

As always thanks Harvey for taking the trouble to add your thoughts. I got a few more details over the last week or so. The first diagnosis was that box was slipping pulling away from stationary and the converter was no good. They used their rolling road and applied reverse and then drive, the...

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

Just an update really.... well, the gearbox finally gave out with a real loss of power and reverse slipping really badly. It seems at first diagnosis that the torque converter is toast. I'm looking at a rebuild of the box basically. Any thoughts on this? Should I get someone to rebuild it...

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

Thanks Harvey, I didn't know that so I'll have a good rummage through my workshop manual and at least get that one sorted.

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

Thanks again for your thoughts. I did change the filter and opted for a gun type which I did asked the garage to double-check on fit. There's just too much fluid to drain for a domestic change. It did reduce that all-too familiar whining noise, I was told the old filter was a bit of a state...

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

I checked the gearbox fluid levels using the sticky (warm engine on, full run through selection). Cleaning the dipstick, there's no lamination or any sign of varnishing or emulsion. Using white kitchen towel, the fluid had lost some colour but still smelled sweet not burned so I topped it up...

Reluctant to get to top gear

Hi all, For what it's worth V8P6B, I've had various BW35 worries and concerns in all eight years of V8 ownership: A loose diff mount causing all sort of grief including grievous amounts of gearbox shunt. High tickover giving prestigious amounts of D to R shunt, No kickdown at all and terrible...

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

Wow, quick reply. Thanks too for your thoughts and another opinion is always valuable. Yeah, I was somewhat hassled on my return home so I'll put the good weather to use and give it a proper check using the sticky. From that, I'll post something up. My independent garage are very good at...

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

Only to add... thinking some more about it, it sounded as if the noise was coming from the front of the car.... I had my window open....

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

Hi Harvey, Thanks for your thoughts. I don't think I was all that clear, as I pulled up to reverse, the car was stationary on the incline, the gearbox in 'D' and the car made this terrible racket. So I killed the engine, reverse parked it in 'N' with the engine off. As I went to leave...

At gearbox at the twlight of its days...

In the rare chances I've got my '69 3500 Auto out this summer, I've had a couple of odd noises I think from the gearbox. The first time it happened was parking up on a moderately steep incline. I was backing the car up when I got a loud noise from what I think was the gearbox. It sounded...

    Replacing a V8 Water Pump

Thanks Stan. I'll start with some WD-40 and will definitely look out for some hex socket of the right size and some Plus gas. I've had success before with some diesel at room temp which seems to be almost as good. I hear you on a little tightening up too, that worked after a bad experience...

    Replacing a V8 Water Pump

Hi all, Haven't been around for a while, a new arrival to the family has kept the ol' v8 garaged and the cold weather has kept it in there. Having got a new MOT, my fantastic mechanic pointed out that the water pump doesn't sound good. My ear and trusty broom handle on the casing only...

    washer bottle for P6B 3500

£27 for the cap! Wow. My pump went on my cap, I went off to Halfords and got a universal 12v pump. A little fretsaw work was required on the pump, drilled out the two pop rivets on the cap and off came the pump, couple of self-tappers and the new pump was on. Even managed to use the same...

    Good mechanic

Hi, I don't know if they are still there but try Cox & Buckles in Wimbledon; they are something of a P6 specialist. I had them do my front shocks when I was new to P6s a few years back. Very reasonable hourly rate and they did it while I waited. I only used them once but I would recommend.
