Chris, the problem with the B post is that once you cut the top off they flex in and out fairly easily, front to rear flexing is undetectable, so the door would be ok when closed, but would pull the post a little when open. I'd certainly be a little concerned about it's strength in a side impact. Could do with triangulating down to the tunnel, but that would be really ugly and stop you getting in the back ! :D

Look at the depth of the B post. You could probably have substantial strengthening under the bench seat

I expect that has a 7litre engine returning 12 mpg on a good day
