Which model of p6?

I've only got the V8 and the little bit of work I have done on it before it was put in storage wasn't that fiddly, but then, I am an ex-Mini owner and a helicopter mechanic so tight spaces don't faze me much.

My advice would be to look around and make a shortlist of prospective cars to view with someone who knows his way around them and then buy on your gut feel for the best one.

Ok so let's take out of the equation condition.

Which one would you advise on, e.g 3500S because they are sought after, series 1 sc because they are a p6 in it purest form etc

Again a 3500, for the reasons I outlined above. In Australia, only 250 3500S were imported, direct from the U.K. I don't know how many are left, but I don't imagine it would be very many. Occasionally they do appear, like the one that Geoff picked up down in Victoria for a song, but most I expect would not sell for any more than the 3500. When they were new, they were priced below the 3500, which is the opposite to that in the U.K.

Here in NZ 3500S have always commanded much higher prices

I always wondered about this. Must have cost far more to buy in an auto from Borg Warner than stuff the Rover box in. Didn't the 3500S NOT have a vinyl roof as standard whereas the 3500 did? Suggesting that was the "premium" model.

The power of marketing, eh.

It's the other way around, the 3500S always had a vinyl roof, whereas it was only the later 3500 that got them as standard. (About BW65 onwards again I'd say).

Correct. The 1974 model year 3500/S brochure showed both models having the vinyl roof and same wheel trims (auto type).

Dave is on the money.

The best car possible, as there's a lot of crud out there.

For ease of maintainance and because they are a bit more more idiot proof - a 2000SC or 2200SC manual would be my choice. I'm continually shocked at how quick and motorway friendly my 2200SC is, brilliant car.

I have just got back from my honeymoon in St Ives Cornwall in my 2200sc auto and it didn't miss a beat and had plenty of go on the motorway, loved it!

I would say a 2000 SC or 2200 SC is the best--a 2200TC is not far short of V8 performance-but with handling that's better than V8 and yes I got a V8 myself but still love the 4 pots
