Which gearbox from anything can go

behind the later 4.6 V8 as used in the 4 wheel drive brigade. Often an auto and sometimes a manual, but always with a huge gearbox with transfer case attached.
Basically, can I find a good 5 or 6 speed to go behind a 4.6 ??

Hi Hensen,

Whichever manual box you choose, it needs to possess a torque capacity of over 300lbs/ft if it is to survive being driven hard behind a 4.6.

In reality the 4.6 delivers so much torque from off idle onwards that really you only need one gear, a direct one, oh and maybe an overdrive. If you want to rev an engine and use lots of gears, then the 3.9 is a better option.

Well, its on ebay, had a chat the the chap selling it, price seems OK, so gonna give it a go. Fingers crossed. I do fancy a torque monster, and dont want to rev it to hell.
