Hello everyone

Just noticed this wire coming from the carburetor isn't going to any where.
What is for and should it be in something?

best regards
James

Hi James,

That is a vacuum tube that should have another rubberised elbow attached to that end. In turn, that then attaches to the vacuum module residing on the side of the distributor.

Ron.

Do a check on that plastic tube and connectors as they get brittle and crack in unseen places over time .Chuck it if it looks dodgy as its an easy thing to replace .

Its an air line to your vacuum advance/retard unit on the side of your distributor . It adjusts your spark under acceleration .Very important .
Remove the pipe from the carbie end and suck on that end of the tube . With the dizzy cap off , suck and watch that there is free movement on the mechanism/ plate that the points sit on .
If it doesn't move freely under mouth /vacuum , your vacuum module needs attention

It does, but not under acceleration.
He's right, that man - Vacuum advance diminishes under acceleration . Your fuel economy will be effected if the vac advance/retard is not working properly .
