What have I done....?

Hi All,
A close friend of ours is moving to Central London, and needed to offload their weekend car, and wanted peanuts for it, so we went off today for a test drive, checked over the huge great wads of receipts and service history, and have bought another car, primarily for 'er indoors who wanted a fun car for the summer too... oh, yes, and it's British made.... :?

£600 with the hardtop, softtop, FSH, and pampered & garaged all its life... I know the potential issues, wrt head gaskets, but its got 52000 genuine miles on it, and has recently had all the cylinder head done by an MG specialist. For the price, I couldn't go wrong, I reckon I could sell the hardtop for most of that... Everything's immaculate! And its taxed & MOTed for a long time... 8)

So in total we have a 1971 P6 3500 on the road, an Audi A4 avant, Mitsi L200, MGF, 1961 Anglia 105e, and a 1971 Pontiac Firebird... and 4 out of the 6 are on the road. 8)

and yes, it did make her "day" :D

Lovely stuff, would love to see pics, I am heading the same way as I feel guilty if I get rid of any of them but am still hunting for more (currently have e-bay open on another window) Its a disease!

Hi Tony , nice one . Looks good . That old hound dog looks like it's debating weather to let it any further up the drive though

He does look like he's trying to scare it off... Just waiting for him to christen it by cocking his leg on the front wheel...

looks great. get yourself a low coolant warning thing that goes in the header tank, that'll stop most HG problems before they start. You get an awful lot of car for your money with these, and if the rest rots away, you can put the engine in something else :)

Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Very nice little machine in terrific nick.
Just be a bit careful about lifting off on briskly driven roundabouts - or you may become intimately acquainted with the meaning of Line 2 above !

Good deal with the hardtop too!
We've had a mk1 eunos roadster v spec for nearly two years, which I've been using as a daily car since taking the Rover off the road.
I don't know how the MGF compares as I've not driven one, but I reckon the mx5 is fairly unbeatable fun for the money (we also paid £600)
Wet or icy though and you have to take things very carefully
My country road route to work last week when it was icy was mostly gingerly at 30mph in 5th at all times..I saw at least 4 cars in ditches before I got to work!
What state is your firebird in now?
Jim

The MGF looks like an excellent buy, and the fact that it still has numberplates in their original font shows just how original it must be. I've often thought about getting an MGF, but I ended up buying an MX-5 instead. The MGFs do handle brilliantly, I understand, and yours is a very striking example, in that colourscheme.
Look forward to hearing more about it!

Just been going through the receipts and stuff, and the car's had a new cylinder head, MLS headgasket, water pump, thermostat etc 2500 miles ago, so with the addition of a few extras, like a coolant level sensor, and maybe a PRT thermostat, hopefully it'll be ok for the forseeable. After I got it home, I had a really good look around it, and have to say, it does look like it was made yesterday, not 16 years ago... In all my days, I've never seen such a clean car this old..

It's even got a tonneau cover..

That's grease around the earth strap..

The more I look, the more impressed I am for the money. I'm still pinching myself... 8)

That does look spotless! I wish they let us have the MGF's over here. the selection of new(ish) cars over here is pretty boring.

It's a steal. I'm totally jealous. I love the hardtop. Imagine how good an MGF/TF coupe could have looked?
