Hi after some advise. My battery is showing since of being shot. The battery is charging fine so no problems with the charging system but it does not perform well on very cold mornings. the car is a 1965 4 cylinder with the battery in the engine bay. Can anyone recommend a good budget battery that will fit. My understanding is that the recommended battery is 089 but the series 1 cars are not so critical on battery size or shape so other sizes can be fitted.

Any advise greatly apreciated.

Hi Luke,

I had similar problems with my battery (for the boot). I found the best thing to do was to find your local motor factors (mine was Central Auto Supplies - try google to find one near you) and then take my old battery and ask for 'one like that'. Then plead poverty and that she's an old girl that barely does 1000 miles / year etc etc just to get a bit of extra discount ;-) worked for me!

I found that the usual battery/tyre places could only try to find a battery for a "Rover 2000" and generally they would be ringing Central Auto Supplies anyway - taking your old battery to C.A.S. made it a whole lot easier!

Cheers,
Brian.

thanks for the reply have since found out that the 072 fits however not needed now as i found the issue is the battery in the car is still sound just a little under rated however I cleaning the battery contacts and trimed half an inch off the ends of the battery leads to give a better contact and this has maximised its output meaning it now starts on the first turn of the key again. Not bad saving £80 for 5 minutes work so i would recomend this to anyone else having difficulty with their battery prior to writing off the battery.
