welcome to the new server.

Thank you Rich, I too appreciate all the time and effort you put in. Seems to have been a very smooth transition.

Well i think we're nice and stable now :) At the weekend i'll take a backup of the site and upgrade to the latest version of the forum software and database. We should be able to get some nice new features then :)

Nice work Mr Rock.

Interestingly, the ego search seems to work now (as in search for your own posts) and the actual advanced search function is now working. It never used to. bonus points right there!

Been pretty stable from the start i think. The only issue i'm having is google searches just go nowhere when you click on them! I tend to just search on google and view the forum results or anything else interesting that comes up. Its easy enough for me to go to the address bar and change the .com to .net then it works but people searching with no knowledge of the forum or changes just will think all the links are dead and not be led here and that is the way i found and signed up for the forum by finding info on Google!
I think it was mentioned before so you may have a cure, but is it possible to restore the google results to the forum ? cheers Tam.

Yep - the google thing is proving difficult. Rick did a very good job of getting it high in the search engines. The .net one should start coming top in searches soon enough but it takes time.

You can also tell it to search a specific site which may help :

type (for example) 'classicroverforum.net: v8 heads' into google and you should get the right results...

you should find the advanced search is pretty good now - if a page has never been accessed i dont think google can access it where the advanced search can see everything. (like patrick stewart in extras).

Thanks very much indeed for taking the time and trouble to sort the forum problems out. Hope you enjoyed your well-earned beer!
Upwards and onwards!

Hi Rich,

In pursuit of my daily fix, I log on from three different 'i'-devices (two handhelds and a desktop), depending on a) where I am and b) how bored I am with the current activity - I try not to hit the forum when driving the other car - or c) for other reasons need to log signs of value-driven intelligent life. I often have to re-log on after a given amount of cross-device activity. Can this be derestricted?

Can this be derestricted?

I've noticed this, but i'm not sure why it happens. I think it must be something to do with cookies and them ending up different on different devices. I'll have a look.

One thing i probably can do i get us a forum app. I dont use iPhone so it'd be good if anybody knows which phpbb apps are good on apple devices and i'll check out all the android ones. Hopefully we can get one that works for everybody...

reactivated. Any idea what triggered that?

Thanks Rich - it's nice to be back. What caused it was that I changed the e-mail address on my profile. The address I had registered with is now invalid. Anyway, once I made the change, I got a warning that my username would be inactive until a Board Administrator approved the change (something to that effect). All this was on Saturday. Today, I got impatient and registered as JVY_temp (whic h I suppose can now be deleted?). :D Thanks again.

It seems Tapatalk is the one to latch on to, and it's cross-platform too. Most forums I visit seem to be talking to it.
