im wanting to improve my welding skills, i havent done anything since about 2001-2 when i was at uni (did arc, mig and tig to an acceptable level) but havent done anything since and wouldnt really know where to start.

is it worth doing a course or should i just practice at home on some scrap and train myself?

how much do welding courses cost?

cheers

Jamie

If you have done some before then I would just get a machine and go for it, Mig is pretty much point and shoot.

I tend to agree with Colin, however if you do fancy some tuition, I was browsing our local college prospectus the other day and they do a welding beginners course, 10 weeks, 3 hours a week, £84

You can learn quite a lot by visiting this website http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/

I'd agree that you already have the basics. Get a machine and all the consumables etc and start playing around.
If you are still unsure after that then look into supplementary training to focus on your weaknesses.
