Water Water Everywhere

On the way to work today in Ayrshire (West Coast of Scotland), I was driving along wishing I had taken the P6 rather than modern hack. While I was at work it rained and rained and rained. On drive home, after going through some rather deep puddles I started to think it was just as well I left JVY at home. I started to wonder how does a P6 typically cope with 1 to 2 feet of water? After all they sit quite low compared to moderns and even with door rubbers are in reasonable nick, I had visions of great floods of the old aqua coming under the doors. Are my fears justified? Do forumites have any experiences of P6 water boarding?

mine coped pretty well with about 6 inches of water, main issues I would think would be the starter motor being low down, and filling the vents in the Torque converter with water.

air intake is nice and high up though, but the dizzy is a bit vulnerable.

There's a pic somewhere of mine storming through a flooded railway bridge on the 'view from the windscreen' thread

A couple of months ago I flew back into Edinburgh airport to find the main road in and out flooded to a depth of about 2 feet in places. We had no option but to go through it if we wanted to get home and most drivers were being very sensible about it. My main concern was avoiding the bow wave that vehicles coming in the other direction were making. When I went through (nice and slow but keepong revs high to stop water going up the exhaust) the water was easily at the bottom of the doors because I could hear and feel it lapping against the car as I went through. No problems at all with water on the electrics or in the car. Mind you I had given everything electical a good spray with GT85 before I got going.

So provided exercise care they're ok. My wife's modern car doesn't like excess water though. Someone had the bright idea of mounting the ECU right where the water could get at the connectors so too much rain send it into limp mode  despite me coating the connectors in Vaseline (there are other petroleum jellies available :)

in the interests of science.

Last night Mr Policeman stopped all traffic going through under an old railway bridge near my house- (tbh, he's probably right, river's dropped by quite a bit this morning). Water level was up to the front bumper (about 18 inches on my car) and it went through no bother. Everything still works, though apparently there's a hole in the passenger floor which has let the water in. So that's got the carpets out and is drying in the (weak) sun. Here's a video of it :)

The pic shows the state of the road further on. I didn't try that bit, it's probably near 5 feet deep over the road a bit further down...

Very impressive Midget. Thanks for posting the vid. Truly impressed you took the time to film that. A service to science indeed-:).
