Hi Marcus

I can't see you having much joy trying to source a single drivers seat for a P6 as these are generally the most worn and in need of replacement - but you knew that already!

If all that is wrong with yours is split seams these are easily resowable. You are right in saying you will need to find a trimmer - I'm in Bristol and know a good one, but not a lot of help for where you are. As well as googling on car trimmers try people who do leather sofas and the like as well - the skills are the same! If you set down the road to recovering them, expect huge expense. I have just had the seats for the Thai car redone in a brown leather. It took two skins at £200 each and the labour was £850 (cash so no VAT!). Plus I had the door cards, shin bins, B post and D post trims, seat backs etc done in a Jaguar vinyl which cost another £400 ish! I doubt you could get a decent quality job done for any less, so you can extrapolate the costs to whatever you need done.

Perhaps the easiest and cheapest option would be to buy a second interior complete through Ebay or one of the P6 breakers - Red Hat Rovers is fairly near you isn't it? If you're happy with black then you can buy a less than perfect one very cheaply. The seat cushions are interchangeable between the front seats so you can then mix and match to get the best drivers seat by using a former passenger seat cushion. Unfortunately the backrests are handed on an S2 in order to give clearance for the inertia reel seat belt mount. But if you were happy to use static belts then you could also use a passenger backrest on the drivers side.

Hope that helps

Chris

Have you tried Ian at Rover Classics?

I don't know if he would have one, BUT he does break USA cars which would have the wear on the left hand seat, no the right hand one. Just a thought.

He wouldn't be that far from you.

Richard

Not kocking Ian as a source (he's seen a good chunk of my disposable income) but ex-USA leather seats are likely to be scarce. The boxpleats used on the 3500s were almost all Ambla; although leather was a published extra cost option, I have never seen a set on this side of the water.

Leather seats can suffer terribly from the effects of 40 something years of sun and heat in these parts - even Ambla dries out and cracks and the foam padding turns to dust. Cars from more moderate climes may have usable upholstery but are frequently rusty

Hi if only we could put a car from USA and a Brit car together , would be a great car body from USA interior from UK, but i would nt want Body from UK and interior from USA lol,

Why not use the headrest fittings from the S2 seats on your S1 seats?? its not to difficult a job to do!!

Hi Marcus if you take the big silver screw out the back & remove the cover there's about half a dozen screws hold the headrest tube in & another half dozen hold the 2 plastic things along the top of the seat, I've just stripped the knackered driver's seat that I brought to York before I threw it away, but the later seats like the good boxpleat one you got off me have the tubes welded in but a quick nip with a grinder & they'll come out

Hi Marcus
I was saving the bits I took out of that seat for my future plans but if you need them you can have them when you come up in 2 weeks time
