VIP car wanted

hi all,
i have just bought a VIP with a never welded base unit and no it is not full of holes or rusted away and wants welding, it is a very unusual sight for a VIP to be in this condition. the first reason i bought it was i wanted the air-con from it for my NADA which does not have air-con. the car is sat on all of it's suspension, probably got a seized engine, the dowside is, it has no body panels what so ever, no interior. so what i want is a rotten VIP to use all the parts from a VIP, interior, headling, huntsman roof, brown steering wheel and impact beams etc. panels are not a problem as i have many of these. so does anyone know of a rotten VIP that can be used as a donor to put a good one back on the road as i do not want to take the air-con out and see a very rare car go to waste.

cue newbee question....

What's VIP stand for in this context?

Rich.

Since then I've had a conversation with Ian Elliott (RSR editor and ex-Rover press department) - he told me that they did produce promotional literature for the VIP - but it wasn't distributed as all the cars sold straight away to dealers

This is Keith Oxley's former car, photographed at Crich in 2007.

Thanks... So VIPs are NADA leftover models with every extra going fitted as standard :O)

I bet they fetch a small fortune!

In this day and age it's very rare for one to come up for sale. I suspect there are less than ten left in reasonable condition - with possibly half that on the road.

The cars were built using the new paint plant at Solihull, and quality suffered generally (the car pictured above was resprayed by the dealership when it was a year old as the paint was falling off it, and the panel gaps, even on the one pictured which is a stunning car, were not good).

One of the best driving experiences I've ever had was when I was leant my friend's VIP for a week about ten years ago. The combination of a willing engine, BW65 changes and power steering, plus the ambience of the super funky Nutmeg interior (with brushed nylon headlining) made the car truly 1970's-tastic. Cool as.

hi all,
managed to find and buy some new VIP seat covers, armrest covers and front headrests. i know need a knackered set of boxpleat seats in brown as i will need the backs from them, cloth or vinyl or leather. any one got a set they don't need and are ready to scrap them.
