HI Folks. At present I am experiencing a strange vibration through the car when I reach 40mph.It seems to go away when you go a bit faster. It is hard to explain but it is not like the shudder you experience when your wheels are out of balance.Any ideas please.
Tony

Hi Tony,

Can you feel the vibration through the steering, the seats of through the transmission tunnel or elsewhere? Did it only just begin and if so, had you worked on or had any work carried out on the car just prior?

Ron.

good set of questions from Ron there - that'll help identify where it is.

Mine does exactly the same thing at around 70sih, however it's felt through the seat and the steering wheel and everywhere I think it's because a balance weight thing fell off one of the halfshafts while I was battering the U-joint bearings in and out. I've not had time to do the jubilee clip trick yet.

Mine is just the 4 pot 2000 tc .It has been happening for a while now but was one of the jobs that needed least urgent attention. Not something that stops me driving the car but annoying nevertheless.
Thanks
Tony.

i'm going to take a punt from that description and just under 50 mph being the speed it happens in the v8 (given the different diff ratio!) that it's the prop shaft UJs or the diff extension mount....

Hello taffyjenks, I had the same problem on my P6 (4 cyl) I got a shudder/ vibration through the base unit which made the rear view mirror
vibrate. Obviously on looking through the mirror you could see it. After inspection of the engine mounts, exhaust, the mechanic
where I have gone for years concluded all was well. The wheels were balanced on the car. On further inspection myself
you could see that bellhousing where the starter motor is was only politely rubbing the base unit!! I loosened the
the vertical stabiliser at the front of the engine. I then went back underneath and wound the snubbing spring down by
10 to 15 mill. The horizontal bar that sits in the snub rubber is now in the middle. Also the vibration has now disappeared.
Hope this helps. Yours Sincerely Moon Rover! Kevin. Keeping on Rovering
