V8 throttle linkage

Having got the gearbox back in and the car running, I've had problems adjusting the throttle mechanism, because the link that joins the pushrod to the engine does not align.

At the rear it is located in a rubber 'grommet' in a bracket fixed to the bodywork (actually (I think) the steering damper). At the other end it attaches via a plastic sleeve and two roll-pins to a bar mounted on the engine connected to the carbs.

Unfortunately, the two mounts are approximately 20mm out of alignment, and the plastic sleeve repeatedly 'pops' off the roll pins. There is limited adjustment on the both mounts, but not enough. Is this misalignment common? If so, what's the fix?

Mike - if it was not like this before you took the gearbox out maybe youhave bent somthing - you did remove the linkage before lowering the rear of the engine? if not maybe the bracket had been bent
the one on my car is straight.

It wasn't perfect before but I'd stopped it popping out with a split pin. Now I'm trying to fix it properly, there's insufficient adjustment. I don't think lowering the engine will have affected anything as the rods were removed and the brackets didn't come into contact with anything.

It looks as though there have been previous attempts to fix/modify the linkage in the past (the bar has been welded at some point): maybe it's always been faulty but I got away with it.

Mike
