V8 problems - Too tight spark plugs!

I have a problem with my rover V8 and i wonder if anyone can help!I was trying to chage the plugs on it yesterday evening and when i got to the offside cylinder bank i couldnt get the back three spark plugs to come loose>I tried warming the engine first but this did not work. I dont really want to put to much pressure on the plugs in case they shear off or ruin the threads in the block. Does anyone have any ideas how i can get these plugs out to replace them?Any help would be appreciated.

thanks speedy!

Hello Speedy,
No speedy replies to your problem I notice.
I have not met this problem before, but how did you warm your engine? - If it was by running the engine then the hottest items in the engine would have been the spark plugs!
(So they expand quicker than the aluminium surrounding them!)
Try squirting a generous helping of WD40 or similar around the spark plugs and leaving for an hour or so. Apply a well fitting spark plug spanner.
If this does not work then gentle application of localised heat from a butane blow torch to heat the head near the spark plug may help. Regards, John.

Try deisel

Put it around the plugs, leave it for a day or so then try the plugs again. It creeps down the threads and helps loosen them.

(Deisel and redex also works on sticky pistons, put some in the bores)

Hi

Thanks for your help regarding spark plugs. I used diesel and the plugs are now out and replaced!
Thanks again.

i know i'm a bit late for this but it may be useful to someone one day, find a socket that just fits over the ceramic part of the plug but rests on the hexaganol of the plug, tap lightly with a hammer (with an extension on if needed) this loosens the threads, don't hit too hard though
