V8 dual line master & servo servicing kits

Hi,

I have a suspicion that the next big thing that will need sorting on my 1974 3500 will be replacing the rubber seals in the brake master cylinder and servo. When I replaced the brake light switch (dual line system, i.e. switch on brake pedal rather than in the engine bay) I noticed the pedal stem and switch were slightly wet with brake fluid. Checking on the JRWadhams website I only found a tandem servo kit, but none for the dual line master cylinder.

Could somebody please give advice on where I can get both kits (ideally, for a reasonable price)? I read somewhere that other cars of British manufacture used similar braking parts, e.g. Jag E-Type etc...

Thanks & best,
Klaus

The more likely cause for a wet brake pedal is a leaking rear seal on the steering box!! That is if you have manual steering. I'm not sure if the same happens with power steering. The leaking fluid emerges in the passenger compartment around the seal where the steering column exits to the steering box, then drips down over the brake pedal. It should be EP90 (although mine had all sorts of things including graphite grease in it). Even to a carefull inspection this looks like a brake fluid leak. Try having the filler plug off the top of the steering box. If it isn't full (and I'm sure it won't be) top it up with EP90 and see what happens. The rate of leakage will increase dramatically if this is the problem. But once you've topped up you will be committed to sorting it! The repair to the steering box is easy and cheap. But you do have to take the steering box out to do it, which while not difficult, is very awkward and heavy.

Hi Klaus,
I got my dual-line master cylinder seals kit from Pierre Janusz at Rover Parts Services for a reasonable price, although I no longer remember how much. Worked a treat, and had everything I needed in it... Whereabouts are you?

Hi all,

many thanks for your replies and advice.
@ Chris: My 3500 has PAS, but to be shure I will check the fluid level in the system, been a while. I think it needs bleeding anyway.
@ Tor: I am located in Vienna, Austria (Europe, not down under). I have heard from Pierre before and will try to contact him on the matter. Do you happen to have his web address or e-mail?

Cheers, Klaus

Thanks for all the brilliant pieces of advice! I'm shure all this will be useful to export/LHD P6 owners. I for one have already ordered the master and servo kits from Pierre.

Cheers, Klaus
