or as suggested by some one, to get the AA to take the car to a place of my choice and then get them to take it out /refurb/ refit. Is the later something that your friend might do? or any suggestions ???

Ian

I'm sure he would have no objection to doing the whole remove/overhaul/refit job, and that does have the advantage that he would have the opportunity to confirm the diagnosis, the downside is of course that it adds considerably to the cost.
I don't know how quickly you're looking to move with it, but I'll be seeing him on Saturday so I can ask him for some ballpark figures for you, if you want to speed things up I can always give him a ring anytime.

Hi
Yes please. I'm away from 22 Feb until 2 March, so no rush - it all depends on your friends committments and I would rather have it looked at by someone who knows what they're doing and has experience and therfore get an honest opinion and a good job done. I do suspect that your diagnosis is 100%right, my immediate thoughts were the gearbox but to be honest, this is the first auto I have ever had, (and I've only ever driven an auto once before and that was a spanking brand new Audi S8 so no comparison there!) and well....auto gearboxes with converters are a whole new area to me.
kind regards
Ian

As your fault sounds ominously like a car I tested, looked at,and said no for a mate a while ago!!
