Urgent question - P6 Engine, SD1 flywheel

Hello fellow Rover drivers,

i have an urgent question regarding the trnasmission end of the crankshaft of a P6 engine. I am in the process of fitting an early P6 Engine (which formerly had automatic transmission) to an LT77 manual transmission. I have the corresponding SD1 bellhousing and SD1 flywheel. The spigot bush is also there.
To my understanding the crankshafts of automatic and manual cars are identical. But what has to be changed on the crankshaft to accept the manual flywheel? The automatic adaptor plate has to be removed, but what else? There is a something like a 15 mm metal bush at the end (which sits very tight), do i have to remove this as well?

I would really appreciate any help, because my engine rebuilder is currently trying to find out what to change on the crankshaft. I want to be sure that everything fits before finalizing work on the crankshaft.

Greetings from Germany

Hi, yes remove spacer and fit flywheel in its place. Don't forget to fit
the correct spigot bearing. Colin

On the auto there is a spacer between the flexplate and the crankshaft, this needs to be removed and then the flywheel will bolt directly to the crank. You don't use the washer that fits between the bolts and the flexplate on the auto. You don't need any parts in addition to what you have already.

Hello,

to make sure i described it the right way, here is a picture of the gearbox end of the crankshaft. I am talking about the darker spacer part on the far right of the crankshaft. Do i have to remove it completely or not?

Yes, that is the spacer that you need to remove and discard.

If that picture is with the crank set up on a crank grinder, you should have removed the spacer beforehand and clamped on to the crank itself, as the spacer wont be manufactured to the same tolerences as the bit of the crank just in front of it. (Where the seal runs.)

Hello,

thank you guys, again the information given was spot on. After removing the spacer completely the gearbox fitted perfectly.
