upgraded oil pump fitting issue

Hi guys, got an upgraded oil pump kit to fit onto my V8 to hopefully cure a leak and improve the oil system. But Im having a problem with the longer bolts that came with the kit. One that goes in behind the oil filter housing is too long to physically fit into the hole as you are coming in at an angle. Anyone know of a solution? Ive tried using the old bolt which goes through the hole fine but isnt long enough to go through the spacer plate. Do I need to make the hole in the pump cover bigger? Or cut the bolt down? But them Im worried it wont seal properly and will still leak.

Here are a couple of pics to help explain the issue:

I've not fitted a kit, preferring to fit the SD1 timing case, but a simple cure would be to use a stud and a nut instead of the bolt.

I have fitted a kit, but I don't recall the bolt not fitting past the casing. It might be worth ring the supplier to see if there was supposed to be one slightly shorter bolt especially for that location.

Yeah will do. I have 2 different length bolts (some of each length) with the kit but neither fit past the filter casing.

A stud with washer and nut would be a better way of doing it,a shorter bolt may not engage all the threads. Loctite would ensure it doesn't come loose.

The bolt on mine was close but it didnt have the lip yours has at the bottom of the bolt head.

Turns out even the upgraded gears were too tight in the timing cover too so just went back to the original ones and cut the long bolts down so we could use 10mm sockets and spanners. Seems oil tight so far!

the bolts fitted were multi point. I replaced with stainless and they didn't have such a large shoulder.

are they the bolts from the engine or replacements?

A few of us found this too, I think the gasket supplied with the kit it too thin so the cover bolts down on to the gears with no clearance. I fitted a thicker paper gasket and it works fine.

I had a similar problem a few years ago....have a look from about 1/2-way down this page http://www.classicroverforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5133&p=33045 and onto the next page.

Your local Landy supplier will have the OEM gaskets for pence.
