In Belgium - the "MOT's" are done by the state in massive "hanger" like buildings.
Personally I think this is the way. When I lived in the UK MOT stations were in many cases small garages who also sold the cars hey MOT'd - conflict of interest. (or MOT stations who got a lot of business from certain traders)
Last year I bought a London Taxi with UK MOT from a so called "specialist taxi garage" -hahahahaha. Had the Belgians look at it and they found a few small holes and a problem with the suspension so severe it was banned from the road! - Upon further investigation - (ie removing the "splash panels" in teh front wheel arches to gain better access to the suspension and remove the front wings - discovered that there is NO metal behind! and the sills hidden behind the chrome trim have disappeared leaving slight traces of rusty lace!
As far as Im concerned a UK MOT is not worth the paper it is written on and the sooner the UK copies the NI and European inspection methods the better.
