Just had a thought which I don't think was covered, bottom link bushes, if distorted would allow the bottom of the wheels to splay out whilst the tracking could still be spot on.
Quite true, I've just had another brain wave, tyres, I had bad edge wear on some tyres on my 800, had all the measurements checked and it was spot on, bought some new tyres different brand, and it never happened again.
I've had tyres like that as well, sometimes they're made in such a (bad) way that they just won't sit properly on the rim. As for all the other suggestions, all valid, some rarer than others, but that's why you should check everything before you set the adjustment.
