Hi all,
I've had a quick search on the forum but I can't seem to find the info I require. I need to get some new tyres for my 72 2000 and it's currently wearing 165 SR14's which don't really tell me what the aspect ratio would be in "new money", I'm aware of the van tyre situation and I don't want to go away (or at least not far from) original rolling radius. Could anybody tell me what I need please?
Thanks very much,
Jon.

Hi,

The aspect ratio of tyres back in the 70's actually differed between brands. The average aspect ratio back then was 82%, so the closest you'll get in "new money" is 165/80 R 14

Pirelli are making the Cinturato P4s that P6s were originally fitted with again (with modern updates, of course).

I just fitted a set of 4 on my 72 2000 and its a new car, steering lighter and more precise, ride supple and grip incredible. Basically its a better and safer ride than I had before. Just done the Beaujolais Run in the car and as well as about 1200 miles on road, lapped Brands Hatch, Dijon Prenois and Gueux circuits and the grip was incredible - throwing into S bends behind a Stag, TVR and Merc coupe as hard as I could I was faster with no skidding, tyre squeal or slip at all, shame the same couldnt be said for the straights...

Point is, if you're after new tyres for a P6, these are the best option Ive come across and would totally recommend them

I'll look into prices and availability of those, thanks for the tip. Sounds like you had some some fun too. I do have "sweeney moments" from time to time so I like a tyre that can be thrown around a bit and not fire me into the scenery and also that doesn't scream when you attack a corner in a "vigourous manner".
Thanks very much,
Jon. :D

Ive just fitted a set of 165R/14 Uniroyal ralley 380's on to connor for £170 inc fitting.
You could go up to a 185/70 for a little extra footprint, ive got Kumho's 195/70's on the V8 and they are excellent, again got them for £170 inc!!
Remember that the 2000's wheel is narrower than the V8 and a wider tyre may rub on the top rear tie rod!

And if you dont have power steering, wider tyres will feel heavy at low speed and put strain on the steering box.

I think the 'feel' is nicer with the correct spec tyres.

I'd love a set of these. The only Centuratos I've ever seen have been 30+ years old and unusable. Very distinguishable tread pattern.

Unfortunately the new Pirellis don't have that distinctive tread pattern, just the name.
Longstone tyres list remanufactured Cinturatos with the right pattern but not in the right size. Not even in 14". :(
