Towing a P6

Hi,

Maybe a silly question, but what is the best way to attach a towing rope to a P6? I have to get it onto an ambulance with the use of a winch, since it doesn’t drive. And I don’t see an obvious attachment point.

Thanks!

Many people use the ring attached to the front crossmember for towing which seems to do the job although strictly speaking it's for lashing the car down to a ferry. It'll no doubt get you onto your ambulance alright or there's always the bumper irons.

That loop on a v8 is attached to the big cross piece that supports the radiator, and if its pulled with a line above horizontal you might damage the front valance. One of the loops (or both?) on the rear sides of the boot might be better, but avoid sharp jerks.

I towed another P6 with my Rover for a few miles some years ago. I seem to remember the cable was looped around the front cross member.

The Rovering Member, jp928, GRTV8 and SydneyRoverP6B have said it all already!
I wouldn't use the two fittings at either corner of the boot floor, they'll just separate at the weld. Ask me how I know!
At the front, if it is a 3500, don't use the guard for the oil filter! Use the main front crossmember, further back than the bolt-on panel beneath the radiator. Or the bumper irons.

The ring visible under the front bends - don't use it. From experience. Use the cross member but tie it so it doesn't move and tangle with anything. And if it's and auto, disconnect the propshaft. You should not tow a BW transmission any distance as it is not pressure lubricated from the drivetrain end. Fine for loading though.

Thanks for al the ideas. I’ve used the front cross member, went very well.
And now I’m off to the other part of the forum: I’ve traded my P6 2200 TC (which had problems with engine and gearbox) for a P5 3000 Some extra steps further back in the past! (1968 vs 1964)
