Tired rear spring

from only looking at it would you consider these springs tired?
The boot is empty except the spare wheel and 2 umbrellas

what do you think?

Looks like mine. I believe many fit the heavy duty spring and this is why some sit higher. But looks normal to me.. But any spring I guess will be "tired" after 40 years.

is it a big deal to replace the rear springs? and do you have to replace the shock absorbers as well

No. Raise the car and support under the base unit. Support the rear suspension. Remove the rear seats and undo the top damper mounting. Remove the lower damper mounting plate on the trailing arm and remove the damper. Lower the suspension until the spring is free. When removing the spring make a note of any ride height shims. It's not necessary, but they will be removed, so if they're in anyway suspect now's the time to replace them.

There arent that many choices though they are easier to source for the rear than the front (which are unique to the P6).

You can get AVO, GAZ, KONI as well as more standard shocks ( sometimes they're all available sometimes not). Depends whether you want to sharpen the ride or not really...

According to W/S manual the ride height on standard tyres and springs for 2000/2200 is 435mm +/- 6mm from the centre of rear top link front bush to ground. ( 422mm for early suspension with green stripe springs)

Hi, I think you mean 'Top link rear bush' where it mounts to the boot wall.
Although the 3500 would be higher due to the bigger tyre, 16mm by my reckoning.

Ok, I got the GAZ along with default springs (no HD). Is there anything to keep in mind regarding the settings of the GAZ?

Fit them so that you can best reach the adjustment knob! I counted 44 'clicks' on mine from soft to hard, and opted for midway as a starting point, so 22 clicks from the limit of adjustment. That was 3 and a 1/2 yrs ago and frankly I've not touched them since!
