Timing?

I have a 1968 Rover P6b 3500 V8. I run it on super unleaded and add castrol valvemaster to it. What would be best to set the timing at, would it be as standard as in the manual or would it be better to retard it slightly? What are our opinions for the best sensible setting? Thanks.

Set it to the factory setting initially (6BTDC) and then roadtest checking for pinking and retard if necessary.

You only need to avoid pinking. Standard 6 degrees is fine on mine with 98 fuel. No lead replacement should be necessary.
