thoughts on replacement dizzy caps

Evening to y'all
Ebay is like a candystore of rover v8 dizzy caps at the moment.
What would be the best bet?
There seems to be plenty of Lucas ones, black mostly for under the £20 mark
Then there's the simonbbc blue one with 'powermax' red rotor, for less of course
Also Mallory with brass contacts (not dual point), but it appears to screw down not clip on...for more of course

The centre carbon has worn right down on mine and all the contacts are really bad, even after a clean up session.
Its definitely reached the end of its life
I'm currently running ignitor and flamethrower.

I had a supposedly new one that didnt really seem to improve things ( lucas on the box) and got a simonbbc one(including the rotor arm-edit) which seemed a vast improvement!

Hello Jim,

The design of the distributor caps with regards to the electrodes is not the same for all Lucas caps. Those for the P6B are different than those for the later Lucas distributors, hence from memory 45 Pounds for a P6B Lucas cap and 20 Pounds or less for the other Lucas caps.

You can run a later Lucas cap on a 35D8 distributor, as found in the P6B, but you need to change the rotor as well to suit the cap.

Ron.

I've a feeling that Mallory distributor cap is for a Mallory distributor. I scrolled down their ignition listings and the Mallory points are utterly different from Lucas ones. Best to check with them first!

you're quite right Chris, that was wishful thinking on my part.
It does only fit Mallory distributors.

Simonbbc it is then :)

Simonbbc distributor and red rotor arrived today, fired up nicely.
Revs very smoothly, outer casting isn't amazing quality, but the inside is fine.
Improvement over my worn lucas for sure :D
