Those of you with bullet mirrors

As the title says, those of you with bullet mirrors on your doors, not bonnet or wings.
Can you see out of them okay? Do the quarter lights open ok?

I'm pretty certain I'm having some, but having seen my partially rebuilt car in the flesh now I need to be sure I well be able to see properly out of the mirrors!!

Do you have flat or convex glass and are they any use at all???

Thanks in advance
J

I have a single drivers mirror...with the glass only being about 70% "mirrored"...and the quartervent opens right into it :(

I have a bullet drivers mirror on my TC and they don't hit the quarterlight if you put them in the right place! I have no trouble with it though it is more of a 'peep' mirror but it does the job just fine. The visibility out of a P6 is so good anyway. I did fit a pair to my lhd and I put convex lenses on those but I haven't really driven that car enough to say for sure how it works. I'm not fond of the convex in general but I would consider using one on the passenger side in future.

Hi Jim .
I fitted mine so i can back it up the drive and into the garage , as it only had a drivers side mirror and the drive is tight . Find them o.k but do find myself having a glance over the shoulder when pulling out into traffic on slip roads , duel carriageways etc , where in a modern you would trust the wider field of vision . But that is no bad thing . Think they look good and they used the same fitting holes as the wind guard that was on the drivers side .

I wont repeat everything I said in that message, but I will reinforce my point about squeezing through tight gaps!
They sit further in than the curvature of the door panel which is handy when you know exactly how wide your car is :)

Thanks all,

They do look great..... But I'm still not sure
I think I'll have to stick with just the one original winguard one, which does look very smart and I'm loath to change it until I have the car at home to be certain!!

Thanks for all your input :D

Jim

Jim is right in pointing out that bullet mirrors enable you to squeeze the car through narrowr gaps than with Winguards. I got so comfortable with the dimensions of my old P6 when fitted with bullet mirrors that I once rather enthusiastically 'threaded the needle' through a gap that proved ever so marginally smaller than the car's width at the waistline. The passenger side front door strip got ripped out of all the plastic fitments, but fortunately didn't get bent! It was just stuck there in the side of a trash bag or wheelie bin or something, I forget, twanging like an arrow in a cartoon! It 'popped' right back into place, and I learnt to leave an eeensy bit more space to drive through! I did used to have to contort myself into a bit of an awkward slouch to see anything in them, mind, but I'm 6' 2".
