TC on wires in Aussie

Is it true wires werent fitted to the P6b as the V8 power and extra weight on the wheels was an issue?
I nearly bought some for my P6b once but was warned off as only suitable for a 4
I had a set of wires on a Jaguar 420 with power steer many moons ago .I managed to ping the spokes if I turned the steering and the car was stationary.A real pain in the butt.

I've heard that. There isn't really any weight difference to speak of but there was significantly more power in the V8. I suspect it was also an image thing. Bear in mind that the wires were only offered on the series 1 TCs which were sold as the 'sporting' model. The V8 was always sold as the luxury express until the manual version came along. I think they probably were on the upper limit of the wheels abilities. The splines wear easily and the spokes loosen too. Possibly why they dropped them after 1970, or maybe just a fashion thing. They must have been an expensive option.
