Sunny Dales!

Put 600 miles on the old girl last week after the top-end rebuild with a few days camping in the Yorkshire Dales. Something can't be right though...it usually buckets down when I'm under canvas!

And happy to report no problems at all, apart from one little hiccup where the thermostat didn't open but a couple of top-hose squeezes got it moving. Gorgeous country, and enjoying it in a P6 made it all the better!

Looks like you had a cracking time, and the weather was great too, pictures make it look totally idilic !
And I spent all last week locked in a bathroom with plumbing tools and a big hammer, wife wouldn't let me out ! :(

I am off to the North Yorkshire Moors next weekend for one of those NYMR 60's weekends.

I know Sparky is a 70's car but I am going anyway :)

I hope the weather is as good as yours!

I am sure I saw you in a pub last Tuesday, somewhere in Heath!

C'mon Richard...own up. You knocked up a bit of kit to make the sounds of you hammering in the bathroom..whilst in reality you'd legged it out of the window? 8)

Damn rumbled !!, to be fair I did take Mrs T with me, in fact she took me, insisted on going in her "fancy soft-top"

I also managed to sneakilly strip, clean and refit the head on her old 820 while she was at work  Runs lovely now and doesn't leak oil.

Hello Stan,

I am pleased to hear that your lovely Rover went really well save for the sticky thermostat. My Rover went through a period some years ago where I was changing thermostats nearly every few weeks due to them deciding to close when the engine was hot.

I have never been to England, so what I normally see is from the television. What is the name of the town in the distance, to the left of your Rover? What was the temperature like at night and during the day?

The stone walls are very interesting. I recall watching episodes of "Heartbeat" and the weather usually looked cold and windy, sometimes snow, and the stone walls resolute in the conditions.

All the best,
Ron.

Hi Ron

Heartbeat was filmed (and still is for the time being) in a village called Goathland.

Because the series was set in the sixties they have a sixties weekend. There is an old steam train (NYMR - North Yorkshire Moors railway) which runs from Pickering up through Goathland to Grosmont, and there will be classic cars parked up at the stations along the way. People turn up from all over the world for this event, and in July there is a WW2 event along the same lines.

Not just cars either, people arrive dressed in 60's clothes.

Goathland railway station was used in the Harry Potter films as Hogwarts station.

Should be a good nostalgic weekend :D

Hello Richard,

Thanks for the info. It all sounds wonderful, would be great to see. I love steam engines too.

I remember when "The Flying Scotsman" came to Australia in 1988. I went for a trip behind her, she was double heading with a restored former N.S.W.G.R 36 class locomotive. Fantastic stuff! :D

All the best,
Ron.

Hi Ron,

The village is Reeth in lower Swaledale and those pics were taken coming down off the moor from Leyburn in Wensleydale. The long ridge in the distance is Fremington Edge..and what a great walk it is along the top..in dry, warm weather! It's about 15 years since I visited the area, but nothing much had changed..apart from the price of beer and meals of course! The Yorkshire Dales really do seem timeless.

Shade temperature last week was (I guess) around 25 Celsius..more in the direct sun as my burnt legs, arms and chrome dome can testify. Still parky at night in a tent though!

Cheers,

My last trip there wasn't on a classic weekend but there were some classic cars

Hello Stan,

Thanks for that.. :D That temperature sounds nice...I could do with some of that here now...Winter in Sydney and the nights are getting close to zero in some parts of the city...Brrrr.

It really does look like a timeless landscape. One day I would love to visit England and of course Wales and Scotland too. Now if I could rent a P6 from Heathrow, then that would be perfect! :D

Best wishes,
Ron.

True, I won't say there wasn't a cloud to spoil the view

Sparky enjoyed sunning himself though

Loads of sixties music, sixties beer (Warm and flat) more music, plenty of classics all over the place, and an old steam train to plod up and down on for the day. And some music.

Great stuff :D

Hello Richard,

That is just fantastic..... :D

I love the music, the cars and the steam engines. Look at the shine on the cylinders, long live steam!

All the best,
Ron.
