sump nut removal

Hi folks. Just coming around to oil changing time and I have discovered that both sump plug nuts have been rounded off.Does anyone have any tips as regards their removal/replacement.I think the size is 13/16 so the metric sockets I borrowed from a local garage were no good. They seem to be very tight.

Thanks
Tony Jenkins.

The first thing to try is a Hex (rather than bi-hex) socket. If it's really round then you're left with the option of grips, Stillsons probably being the best, but just have a replacement plug to use afterwards.

I'd order two new ones up and as harvey says get a pair of stillson's on them.

Why do garages insist on using air tools on sump plugs ?

How much time can it possibly save ?

Thanks for the replies.I can get hold of Stilson wrench and will give that a go.I have got two new sump plugs to replace them.
Cheers
Tony.

Hello Mr B.Well thanks to you it is ok.Didnt want to give it the commentators curse that is why I havent been in touch. My old engine must have been in poor condition anyway because this one seems to be a lot stronger. It starts up better with no death rattle ans doesnt have any noises to worry about.I have not been on a long spin yet as I havent really had the time.I was going to run it up to Andy last week to get him to get the rounded off sump nuts removed but he was working on his house. Will go soon if I cant get them off. They are both well rounded.

I have filled an entry form in for Bowes.I keep looking at it and thinking will that be too far.Shouldnt worry really because it should be fine.Spoke to Pat last week and he mentioned it so I used the form that came with the magazine.Speak soon.
Regards
Tony.

I would use a cold chisel but then again I am a bit of a butcher  the only proviso on use is that you don't bugger the sump, its not like you will be using the bung again.
