Stunning S1 2000...

This car certainly is stunning. That interior looks like it came straight out of a sales brochure.

Like others have said though, it's not a car to be used regularly. These low mileage examples should be preserved as they are whilst we all run around in our dailies and weekend drivers :D

I couldn't add a car like this to my collection and not use it. I'd be too tempted to take it out and show it off :D

Its surprising how good a quality picture/camera can make a car look a hell of a lot better than it actually is!!
Even if it is an exceptional car to start with!!
Will be watching to see what it goes for,but wont be buying it though!
No room!

Can't fault the seller for preparing the car well! I'm keen on the best of the P6s finally being recognised financially. Given how much some routine Fords and Jags go for; this really should fetch over £10k. I've just got my 2000TC back from Nick Dunning. I've spent about £13k so far on it's restoration and I'm aiming for 'good and usable' rather than concours. A perfect one should get good money these days.

I agree with the points about the car being too good to use. As some of you know, I recently bought a car which was too good to use (especially with a three year old  !)
I was scared to use it so ended up selling it again. But I've just been really stupid and done it again. More to follow!

This car is unique so I imagine that price-wise it will 'top the tree' as it were... This may set a new bench mark!

Not exactly unique, as there have been several other low mileage cars around over the past few years.

It's also not "un-restored" as they admit to a respray taking place some 24 years ago.

That said, it's a beautiful car. I'd guess at £8-10k.

That's the figure I reckoned too (see early post). And you are right, I've been watching the ads over the years and below 50k mile examples while not plentiful certainly do exist. Despite the go-getter, youthful hi-tech image the P6 originally enjoyed, many were still bought by brand loyal older motorists who didn't do many miles. Especially as they retired and "downsized" from a P5 or a Jag, there wasn't much quality British choice. I don't think it's a coincidence that so many survivors are automatics even when there was a choice in the case of the 4 cyl cars.

The nature of auctions though is you only need two people who really want the car and it can very quickly go silly. Not long until we find out.

Well the auction comes to a close just after 13:00hrs today and we're already tickling the under-belly of 9k! Just how high will the price go in the next 4(ish) hours...??

Why anybody would part with £9000 for an SC auto which previously sold for £4000 is totally beyond comprehension. All i can say is that, the winning bidder must be sure they are keeping it because I doubt they will get the money back ( or even close)

I hope the doctor can sleep at night !!

£11500 ?

You could restore one for less than that and from experience, low mileage cars are more trouble than high mileage ones. Whats the bet it ends up on ebay again

I really don't understand why anyone would pay that sort of money for that car.

I reckon Mike Brewer could learn a thing or two from the doctor.

I hope this is not the last we see of this car but I fear it may disappear into a collector's garage somewhere

I think the value of this car is/was high due to a combination of factors that made it unique...

1) It was relatively low mileage...
2) It was a rather rare colour for a P6...
3) It's condition was almost perfect...
4) The provenance of the original owner was rather quite interesting...
5) The advert and photography were pretty much perfect...
6) It was sold by The Doctor!...

All the above may not mean much to us (they certainly don't mean that much to me!) but to some people they mean the difference between a £6k car and a £12k car!

That's the thing with an auction (as we know), if 2 or 3 people want the same thing the price is bound to be higher than it's really supposed to be!!!

Anyhow, I do hope this has gone to a ruddy good home...
