I heard at the NEC that Ian Wilson, providing he has the exact part number, can get the stickers done as he has the microfisches or similar.... Will be worth at least speaking to him.

I have looked through all my brochures and can't find a single decent engine bay shot in any of them, however, I do have some period magazines and it appears to go on the passenger side inner wing, quite a way back near the PAS resevoir or just in front of the hump over the springs. It should be lined up directly behind the big service label.
Something like this but on the other side for RHD.

That said, it appears that not all cars had all the stickers. Some in the road tests don't seem to have any engine bay stickers at all. I suspect they went wherever the worker of the day felt like putting them.
Hope this helps!

WAIT! I just found a better one. This is at least rhd and I found it in James Taylors book.

This looks about the same as the other ones I have seen.

No worries! Happy to put the library to good use. :D
I am in the process of reconstructing some of the labels on my Sage car. I scanned them into my computer and tidied them up in a paint program. This has proved surprisingly effective as you can go in and alter them pixel by pixel if neccessary. I basically repainted the background white (from the faded yellow they were) and touched up the tears, smudges and damage. All that remains is to find someone who can print them onto a suitable sticker.
I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to seriously alter the label using this method, ie change the text and make your own Paprika label.
No-one would know.

As KiwiRover suggests, why not get a sticker made up? Luckily for you, I'm a professional graphic designer with a good eye for typography and a huge library of different typefaces, one of which will be the perfect match.
If you can provide me with a similar paint code sticker, one that is still available, and the relevant numbers for the sticker you need making up, I could very easily make you up an artwork for a Paprika paint code sticker, you could take it to any company who can produce stickers, or I could have them made myself for a small fee. Whats more, because I like your car, I'm happy to create you an artwork absolutely free of charge. I could then email it back to you as a pdf or svg file. I don't have a sticker to work from, there isn't one in my Artic White '73 parts donor, and the original stickers were all removed before I repainted the engine bay of my Davos White '72.

While talking about making up stickers, badges and signs etc. I don't suppose anybody knows what is the correct typeface used for the 3500 and 3500S badges? I would like to make some badges up to denote increased engine capacity, i.e. 3900, 4000, 4600. Don't know yet what size V8 I'm going to fit in my project but I'd like it to be larger than 3.5 litres, and matching badges would be a really nice touch. Come to think of it, I actually don't have the right typeface used for the Rover name in adverts, brochures etc. That is another font I would like to identify.

I agree with mrtask, imagine a '5500' badge on Ragnar "Blueman's" project car... I don't have or use any myself as yet, but I do have a nice photo printer and I've seen font-recognition OCR software that might help you. Not sure about scanning a script badge, but you never know.. 8) I do have a hunch though, that someone on here might know details of those old typefaces. Ian Wilson has Davos White colour ID stickers available if you're after one for your rebuild car.

Lovely that people are getting these made up who can get them right - I recently got a set of remanufactured stickers made elsewhere off an auction site ... where the service decal had huge amounts of typos with references to 'Duskhams' oil, 'see also cam litemature' and so on, and the sizes on some of them were off by miles.

I once heard of an old P6 (or P5B) slogan or rear-screen sticker that is supposed to have said "Was sedate - now vee-eight". Make that artwork up and I can sort some UV resistant sticker paper!

I have seen 4500S badges on a car belonging to one of our regional members, (previously belonged to Mike Breading). They look really nice, he has also had a label done for the steering wheel too. You can just about see the badge in this photo.

The only underbonnet shot I can find is this one.

I'm not sure of the exact spec of the engine, I do know that it was heavily "built" so could be based on a smaller capacity lump (maybe even 3.5) and built up to 4.5 If I get chance I'll ask the question.

I'm sure I've seen the spec for this engine on here somewhere. As Richard says it is very special indeed with American racing pistons etc etc. More of a TVR Griffiths spec than Range Rover! And yes, it is 4500 and not 4600.

Mr Task

I wonder if we could encourage you to make up some of these badges? I've tried Duraglit on one of the printed type (as opposed to engraved as per early S1 3500) plate badges and that gets rid of the printed black numbering without damaging the silver finish of the plate beneath. You could then produce a vinyl with just the black numbers for the new capacities so that we could then apply to our own suitably prepared badge plates.

I'm up for a set of 4600 ones!
