steering wheel - what size/ style

What size looks best and anyone happy with their changed wheel - what did you go for? My car has standard plastic but it has pas - retro fit I guess - thoughts ???

The smaller leather covered wheels from the PAS cars often turn up on ebay for not much money. Which is what we're fitting to our 2200 when the power-assistance kit to be fitted is fitted. Personally, I'm not a fan of aftermarket wheels.

I like the leather rim wheel with the polished spokes (like mine )

A MotoLita may be a better wheel but I think the original looks best

I do like the look of the smaller leather ones fitted to some V8's but something about the big old plastic one that adds to the car's charm. :)

I had the standard power steering leather covered wheel re-connolised as the leather was tired and had a dreadful sticky feel to it that had been with the car since I bought it 13 years earlier. No amount of cleaners, conditioners would rid the leather of the dreadful sticky feel. However shortly after re-connolising/colouring (undertaken by a local company) the stitching linking the two ends of the cover disintegrated and unfortunately I could not find anyone to repair this (the stitching linking the two ends is made before the cover is stitched to the wheel around the outside). The Mota Lita website is very seductive to those who have never looked this up before. The sorry condition of my standard wheel led me to look at treating myself to one of the 15" dished, leather covered 3 spoke wheels. I eventually settled for the polished spokes with circular holes and polished badge with the Rover logo. They are expensive wheels but the quality is 100%. I am extremely happy with the Mota Lita wheel - it does look stunning and not at all out of place.

Unexpectedly, I think the wheel has improved the feel of the car on the road. I am a largeish man with largeish hands (no sniggering!). The standard thin rimmed leather wheel can be a little tiring on my jumbo paws. The rim of the Mota Lita wheel is somewhat thicker than the standard leather rim and thickly padded. As a result the car is far far more comfortable to drive and simply feels better to the touch.

If you have the budget invest in a Mota Lita or ask for family to club together for one for Christmas!

I had the original leather one for PAS,but the leather was breaking down.
Then I saw this early moto-lita wheel on Ebay, and luckily won it quite cheap "£30" as it needed revarnishing, then I got some luck as only 2 days later a new moto-lita p6 boss came up for £10 buy it now!
I fitted a badge from a P5 as I think it suits it well!!

That looks very nice

Does the P6 boss fit other cars ? I've always believed it's the same as a BL Mini 1100/1300 and thay may be a bit more common

I've just bought a V8 auto for not a lot. I bought it for the fitted aircon (Alpinair) but it also has a Rover spec wooden wheel & a bootmount. So I'm quite chuffed though I still have to evaluate the general condition of the car (the interior is U/S). It drives & stops apparently & has a months tax though no MoT.

Here is an early mota lita steering wheel, (with the smaller centre boss, and conveniently a similar size to the central badge of the usual rover wheel), as fitted to a series one P6B that I had converted to power steering; and what a difference that makes! Eric

The black spokes do look sexy with the original viking badge in the centre. One other way forward perhaps would be to pick up a 2nd hand Moto Lita wheel needing restoration and get Moto Lita to recover the leather/revarnish the wood and polish/repaint the spokes. Not sure how much they would rush you, but surely would be cheaper than a new wheel?

I had a word with Moto-lita last year about restoring my TR6's leather wheel, and my P6's wood one.
They do not do refurbs.
They reccomended finding and using a saddlemaker to retrim the leather one,and a good local woodworker to revarnish the wood one.
The alloy can be easilly done at home on a polishing wheel. Or a local machine shop will know who can do it!
I decided to keep the patina of age on mine,as it would cost about as much to have new leather and get it polished,as buying a new one!

I think a smaller wheel(15"), and chunkier rim improve the "feel" of power steering on a P6, which is also a consideration when choosing a steering wheel. On a thin rim my fingers press into my palm, painful for me being a fingerstyle guitarist using fingernails! This is presumably why modern steering wheel rims are like that even for non guitarists?
