Starter Motor. 2000sc

Hello Folks, I need some advice please. In recent weeks my P6 has got harder to start. You would think I had no compression. The starter just spins then
now and again the starter will engage and start the engine as normal. The engine is in a good state of tune so I don't feel there is
any problem with that side of things. The battery is only 1 month old. I went to start Rosie yesterday. Just wouldn't have it !! :( So
today I have took the starter off. 2 and half hours!!
My starter is the pre-engaged type. What may I ask should I be looking for??? :?: I have a feeling I may need
a new starter. I suppose it hasn't done bad after forty years!! :) Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks in anticipation!!
Sincerely Moon Rover! Kevin

Could be a good cleaning and lubrication of the moving parts will bring it back to life. Sounds like the solenoid is not moving into engagement.

Hello OrganDoctor, Thanks for the reply. Further to the earlier post I have done the tests off the car. Whilst the solenoid kicks in very healthy,
there is a groaning sound coming from the starter itself and spins not as fast as it should to turn the engine over. Further dismantling
found the brushes worn down to 12mm and the bush badly worn and commutator is worn out!! So I am afraid its a refurbishment
or new one! :( I still think 40 years on one starter isn't bad. Once again thank you for your reply.
Sincerely Moon Rover! Kevin.
