speedo cable

7.5 mm is the diameter of the speedo cable.

While we are at this subject: the cable is connected to the speedometer at one end and to the BW 65 at the other end. Focusing on the gearbox end, there is a 90 degree gadget. What is the purpose of this?? Is it a sort of converting unit or is it to make the cable connection to the gear box more acceptable?? My speedo meter does not work, and I believe it has to do with the cable connection on the BW 65. It is quite difficult to get the cable off without loosening the gearbox rear end, but is the mentioned 90-degree unit neccessary? Thanks, Chris Varming

Its called the angle drive, and yes it makes connection of the cable to the gearbox possible as having it going straight in would not work.
They are prone to breaking.
If you look at it,you will see a small screw, which is where a bit of oil should be put in every now and then to lube it.
Unscrew the cable from it and turn the inner and see if the speedo turns, then unscrew the angle and look at the bit of cable that picks up the drive from the gearbox,as it is normally this that snaps.

Thanks Pilkie that was just what I wanted to know. Q:Is it possible to put the angle on the automatic transmission without loosening it from the propeller shaft I wonder?? Chris

It is possible, but it is a tight space, and the exhaust maybe in the way,so make sure its cold.
If you have a willing sensible child available to use then their hands are smaller and a better fit.
My dad and grandad always used me for the fiddly stuff back in the 60's/70's.
