Side Plate Bolts

I need to replace the side plates on the engine, and I see that there are a couple of threads about that here, however my question is- Are the bolts into 'blind' holes, or do they go through into the water jacket itself?

I have worked on another make of engine with side plates and the bolt inner ends entered the water jacket. Some were impossible to shift and had to be drilled out.

I don't believe they enter the water, no. They don't generally give too much resistance to removal in my experience.

Thanks, Rovering. I feel a lot more comfortable about tackling the job now.

I've only ever had one bolt snap off on a side plate. Even then it wasn't awful to remove. (I got lucky)
