at tickover i have a slight misfire.this has been diagnosed as a valve been kept open by an incorrect shim on the exhaust side.
how do you go about changing the shims.is it a big job and is it better to get someone who is experienced on this to do the work.

Are you sure the valve clearance is not closing up because of running it on lead free petrol ?
In which case you will need to fit new valves /inserts rather than just change a shim

Steve,
adjusting valve clearances on the four cylinder engine is a long and slow process. Much patience is called for. I have only every owned V8 models so I have never had to adjust valve clearances since purchasing Rovers. No doubt some expert 4-cyl owner will respond at length. I guess it's probably best left to someone who has had previous experience!
Regards, John.

Thanks for the replys.i,ve had a word with richard at viking restorations and i,am going to let him tackle the job when its time for the mot.
cheers steve
