Setting up hs8 carbs

Good afternoon to you all ! I have fitted new jets and needles to my car that has Hs8 aud 533 carbs fitted but I messed around with all the adjustment screws on the carbs
while they where off .

Anyway I can't work out what screws do what as the car runs but only if I have my foot on the throttle ?

Cn anyone explain which screw does what (two onb top of carb beside each other and one below them facing upwards if you know what I mean.
Plus does anyoone know the fctory setting of these?

Tomorrow, I will take some photos of mine and annotate them so that you can see what does what. there is no "factory setting" for these : they have to be adjusted to suit each engine, but I will give some guidance as to where to start from when i post the photos

This is a photo of a spare HS8 which I have, which shows the situation better than if they are on the car. The idle screw controls the butterfly stop setting directly . The fast idle screw needs to be set so that it only starts to move the butterfly when the choke lever has been pulled out a little way i.e. when the choke is off, there should be a few thou clearance between the screw and the jet actuating lever . The mixture screw controls the jet level , screw up for weaker and down for richer. An initial setting is usually with the jet down about 50 thou from the bridge of the carburetter with the choke off

That is exaactly the information I needed Chris ! Thank you very much for tthe help!

I think I will be able to sort it now.
Cheers !

One thing I should have added is that when you adjust either of the idle screws, it is good practice - indeed essential with the idle screw itself, to loosen the clamp on the carb interconnecting shaft, so that you are only adjusting one carb at a time . Then, when both carbs are sucking evenly, reconnect the clamp

Thanks for tthaat info I had aa mess about today and it is getting to the point tht she sttarts and runs but needs tweaking.
