Series 2 Clock

Hi folk's,

I have recently had bother with my 72 V8S clock, and while getting some very useful info when searching the forum, and managing to get the clock working again (replacing the solder),i'm still not sure it is working correctly.

I believe the clock should rewind itself every 3-4 min's once the point's contact, but since sorting mine, the gap jump from the electrical contact is minimal when it rewind's,that it now charges itself every ten sec's or so!.There is also a constant clicking, with blue spark's every other time the point's close.

Does anyone know how i can increase the jump on the metal disc to increase the recoil time, just so i don't flatten the battery!.I have thought of weakening the spring??....

I hope this post makes sense?!!.

Cheers.Gus.

I increased my "wound up" time by taking it apart and using a small paint brush with WD40, oil the rod that the spring wraps itself around. I found that I'd got too much friction there and needed some help to make it slippy. Now my descriptions are as bad as yours  but as you've had the clock apart, you'll know what I mean.
Whilst your at it, make sure you DONT get any WD40 on the hair spring (the one that goes tick tock!!) otherwise the adjacent coils will stick together and cause your clock to run fast and you wont be able to control it.

My clocks (I've got 3 - two are spares) wind every 1½ - 2½ minutes

Brian.
