Series 1 V8 Starter

Gentlemen,

My Brother and I have been spending the last two weekends fitting a new boot floor into the Rover until yesterday afternoon when we ran out of gas so this morning we decided to sort out the intermittent starter fault, my brother races Land Rover trialers so has plenty of spares, we removed the starter and compared with his stock to find that the orientation was wrong and none would fit so we transferred the solenoid as we thought this was the fault, having refitted it the fault is still there, the faut being that the solenoid moves but the starter doesnt always spin so we think it is now the motor so I'm now on the look for another starter motor. I do know a gentleman in Kimbolton who works at a garage in Ely but I've lost his number, does anybody know it or where can I quickly get a starter. I live east of Bedford.

Thank you,

Martin P

Hi, it is only the aluminium nose casting that is different so build up a known
good LR starter into the P6b nose.

Gentlemen,

Well took my duff starter apart and stripped also a couple of my brothers spares and even though outwardly they looked the same and had the same solenoids the casting where it mounts to the motor body is totally different as is the internals so back to square one, does anybody have a starter motor to fit to a 1969 series one V8 3500 please. Getting desperate as car stuck in garage and brother needs it out to work on his Trialer/racer. Reason we cant move it is garage at top of steep slope, drive is made of gravel and once car is pushed out we wont be able to push it back in and drive is to steep jack up a vehicle to go underneath it.

Hi Martin

You'll be pleased to know that the series 2 starter is interchangeable with the series one, so your choice is widened! Have you spoken to Winn's as yet?

Brother took solenoid apart last night and cleaned up contact plate, sorted wiring to starter and it worked correctly. It would seem that the starter problems we have had since buying the car was down to incorrect connections highlighted by a faulty starter solenoid.
