Series 1 Clock & Speedo (SD1 box)

Hi,

I thought I'd start with the simplest question first:

My clock no work....to be honest I haven't even unscrewed anything yet as it looks like I need a tiny short screwdriver to get the clock out and see what's not attached - but are there any common problems/fixes for these?

And whilst I am poking around I thought I'd take a look at the speedo - again not working, but apparently it used to so maybe the cable is duff. It has the SD1 manual conversion so I'm not expecting any exact speed recording, but would just like it to work so I can calculate what 'speed' not to go over. I've read a few things on here about it, and seems like getting a fresh cable made up is the way to go - do these alter if you have a linear speedo (like mine) or are they the same whichever?

Thanks in advance

Joe

Hi Joe,

The speedo problem could be due to a number of things: drive gear in the box, cable, angle drive, or an issue within the speedo itself. I think you need to trace whatever the problem is first before committing to a new cable. Pull the speedo and see if there's rotation on the angle drive for starters, for instance?

Similarly with the clock. It's not unknown for these sort of faults to be down to no more than a dodgy bullet connection, so I'd suggest you need to get it out and check the supply first, followed by a bench test if needed.

I've got a spare Series I clock and a speedo angle drive in the garage if you need to replace either of them.

Nice selection of cars you have, by the way. :)

Good luck,

Stan
