Selector rod and remote removal

Hi all put a known good gearbox in my 2200 tc to hopefully stop the chattering/clacking noise when in fourth and road speed around 30 and over, new clutch fitted also. Road tested all gear,s good but same noise? I,m now wonder is it the selector rod as the remote and rod was taken off old gearbox and fitted to new one as it was missing on new one, my question is can the remote and rod be removed while gearbox is in situ or does the gearbox have to come out? I,d fitted new bushes to rod before fitting so it is,not them causing the noise, becoming a mystery the noise is very loud and from the transmission tunnel area in the car,any help much appreciated Dion.

The remote can be removed without the need to remove the gearbox, but the gearbox does have to be dropped down and the prop has to be removed, so that you can reach up over the top of the remote (from the back) to undo the retaining nuts.

Thanks for your suggestions, but bought a new and correct gearlever just before I replaced the gearbox hoping it was that to no avail, could it be spigot bush or flywheel? Thanks
