Seized gear select cable - 3500 auto seized cable

Hi from Australia.
Without warning, found gears impossible to select (BW35). Problem was due to a seriously seized cable connecting gear lever to the gearbox (no rods and levers on this one). I have not seen any reference to this problem on the forum so I assume this is not a common fault. Removal took about 5 hours and I am able to move inner cable after application of WD40 and oil but only with excessive force.

Any ideas anyone?...
....May have to look at getting replacement made locally in Cairns.

The manual refers to connection by rods but this is not the case in this instance

I've not seen a 35 box fitted with a cable, only the 65 box, and I can't remember one ever seizing. Somebody has obviously been playing about at some time.

The first thing I would check is the engine earth, if that is missing/broken the engine will earth through whatever it can, which will include the selector cable, which will get hot, melt internally and seize. The same thing can happen to the choke cable.

Harry will obviously know the exchange rate better than me, but IIRC it's about 3 aussie dollars to the pound.
So if shipping comes to less than £23 yours would be cheaper Ian.
