seat belts - Mot snatch test

Just a thought

on replacing my seatbelts i noticed that they didnt lock with snatching the strap while car is stood.

on checking them out they work on a weight system which locks when the weight is displaced from horizontal.

I believe these to be fine, but what about when its time for MOT will the testers fail the belts as they dont lock when stationary?

or is the test age related and this is taken into consideration?

Cheers

Any good MOT'er should know about these, and if they know their stuff will also know how to test them!!
If 1 person pulls the belt out the other should give the main body a good sharp thump, this "normally",is enough to make it lock!!

If they have a puzzled look on their faces and there's several people hovering around your car scratching their heads, I'd be inclined to go elsewhere :)
I had to take a customers car (2000 SC) to an alernative testing station last year as mine had a booking cock up  I sat politely in the viewing area as they didn't want me in the work area. After watching for what felt like an age I ran into the testing bay and opened the glovebox to pull the bonnet catch for them  Very worrying really as that was with 2 of them searching for it, neither were school leavers :)

Snatching the belt is NOT part of the mot test, the tester is simply required to examine the complete webbing, check that it locks into and releases from the buckle, and check the mountings for security, this is because if it gets jammed or damaged , whos fault is it?
But many old school testers dont realise this.= time for a refresher course,

nun909m is right. No snatching in the test only examining the full length of the belt for fraying, that the belt securely fastens into the buckle and that there is no significant corrosion within 30cm of the seat belt anchorages.
MOT time is always a nailbiting experience, if it helps to put your mind at rest click here: http://www.motester.co.uk/ This will give you a rundown of what is checked and how, it is set up for modern cars but you can find your way from here and hopefully get some sleep the night before the test.
